Roxy’s Retro 11/16/21 Warren Zevon “Excitable Boy”

IN THE LATE 70’S AND EARLY 80’S, I WOULD SNEAK UP TO THE LIVING ROOM AROUND 10:30 ISH ON WEEKNIGHTS, SIT CROSS LEGGED AS CLOSE TO THE CONSOLE TV AND TURN IT ON WITH THE VOLUME LOW JUST SO I COULD WATCH LATE NIGHT TALK SHOWS, I LIKED JOHNNY CARSON, BUT DAVID LETTERMAN WAS MY ABSOLUTE FAVE…A MIDWESTERNER WITH A DARK AND ODD SENSE OF HUMOR…AND LETTERMAN ALWAYS HAD THE BEST MUSICAL GUESTS, INCLUDING REPEAT OFFENDER AND SOMETIME FILL IN FOR THE LATE NIGHT BANDLEADER, PAUL SHAFFER…THE FANTASTIC WARREN ZEVON…HE WAS JUST AS ODD AND COOL AS LETTERMAN AND HIS SONGS TENDED TO HAVE A DARK HUMOR SLANT WITH A ROCK SOUND THAT STILL HOLD UP LIKE ZEVON’S HIT SINGLE FROM 1978 “EXCITABLE BOY”…I GOTTA SAY THAT BACK IN THE DAY I DIDN’T REALLY PAY ATTENTION TO THE MACABRE LYRICS, BUT NO MATTER, IT’S A SILLY SONG THAT JUST ROCKS AND ZEVON REMINDED US TO ENJOY EVERY SANDWICH…LIFE IS SHORT…SAGE ADVICE…DON’T BE AN ‘EXCITABLE BOY’ ~ROXY
