Roxy’s Retro 9/15/22 The Replacements “I’ll Be You”

THE MINNEAPOLIS BASED ROCKERS THE REPLACEMENTS SADLY SPLIT IN 1991, AND WHILE THEY WEREN’T AS SUCCESFUL IN THE MAINSTREAM, IN 1989 THEY TOPPED THE CHARTS WITH A SONG THAT JUST FIT MY LIFE AT THE TIME. I WAS GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND REALLY THOUGHT I WAS SO EXTRA AND READY TO TAKE ON THE REAL WORLD…BUT I WAS GONNA DO IT MY WAY… “I WAS A REBEL WITH OUT A CLUE”…THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST LYRICS, EVER AND ALSO HAPPENS TO BE FROM THE REPLACEMENTS CHART TOPPING SINGLE “I’LL BE YOU”…THE WORDS WERE SO GOOD THAT IN ’91 TOM PETTY BORROWED THEM FOR “INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN”. REPLACEMENTS LEAD, PAUL WESTERBERG HAD TO BE JAZZED ABOUT THAT! RIGHT? IMITATION IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF FLATTERY ♥ROXY
