Jon

Good day, this is Jon. I guess this is where I am supposed to tell you something about myself. So here we go.

I have been in radio since I was 16 years old. I got my first radio job in my hometown of Galesburg, IL. I had been a CT listener since the station went rock in the 70’s. CT was my dream station to work at. In 1985 I applied for a position at WWCT and much to my surprise, they gave me a call. After a series of interviews, I was offered the position. It was a dream come true. I was going to be working at my dream station! 35 years later, they still cannot shake me! Join me Sunday mornings 10a-Noon for CT’s Vintage Brunch.

Musically, I have about the most diverse taste of anyone I know. When asked what type of music I like, my answer generally is, “Anything as long as it is done well.” As of late, I have been listening to a lot of jazz.

How did I get started in this business? This is a question I get quite often.

I got my start at a little radio station in Galesburg. We had vocational electronics in high school and there were a few kids that the teacher would let take the test for that week at the beginning of the week. If they scored an “A” on the test, we could go to the “back room” and either work on electronic projects for the school or something of that nature. My father had been drilling electronics into my head since about age 3, so I was one of the ones that were normally in the back room. I used that time to start a little repair business. I would repair kids’ car stereos or home stereos during class for some extra money. One day the program director of a local radio station called the high school electronics teacher looking for someone who could repair studio equipment. His response was “Boy do I ever, this guy is always hauling some piece of stereo equipment in here and fixing it”. The rest is history.

Being in radio, most of us do a couple of different jobs. My other job is being Chief Engineer for Advanced Media Partners.
